Possibly even more importantly than their having prior knowledge, you will want to know how well they have done and if they have had enough knowledge in your particular state to be valuable and kept side by side of your state's laws.
You must also make sure that the lawyer's personality is a good fit for you. You are likely to be in a long-term relationship with him/her, and you do not want to select a lawyer you do not like as a person.
